Having been established simultaneously with the Exploration Committee, the Mining Act Committee has concentrated upon proposals for reform of the newly endorsed Mining Act and the difficulties in its implementation. In this respect, a number of private discussion sessions have been conducted with the mining authorities of the Ministry of Industries and Mines, Government of Islamic Republic of Iran. Presently, a draft of the proposed revisions to the Mining Act is under preparation to resolve the controversies in the field of environmental issues, private sector proprietorship of natural resources, categorization of minerals, and legal issues related to exploration. The proposed changes will be discussed in detail with representatives of other organizations as well as mining experts, and if approved, will be submitted to the Ministry of Industries and Mines for consideration.
